I can't figure out Joab in this passage. Joab was the driving force in having Absalom brought back to Jerusalem to reconcile with David. When he killed Absalom while he was hanging in the tree this was against David's wishes. Was it what God wanted though? It secured a place for Solomon later. It might have been part of David’s punishment. It brought back stability. It’s interesting whether it was God’s will or if God just worked with what happened.
