Thoughts on today's reading?

  1. Interesting things in this passage! David angered God when he took this census. It says that the Devil incited or tempted him to do it. Here again is Joab giving wise advice. I like hearing that the whole thing disgusted him. It seems like David's heart is straying. Maybe it's all of the power and the glory that he has enjoyed all of these years. God still listened to him though when he begged him to stop the plague. I liked that David insisted on buying all of the materials for the sacrifice, because he said that he wouldn’t offer a sacrifice that cost him nothing. That has application for me today and how we are to serve. It’s also interesting to me that David was afraid to go to the tabernacle now, because of the Angel of the Lord. There is a reason why we don’t get everything that we ask for (power, position, money). I think that God knows how difficult it is to handle this and still stay godly.

  2. After seeing some of David's failings in regard to the census, I love seeing the good advice that he gives to Solomon concerning his upcoming reign and about building the Temple. Again we hear him saying, "Be strong and courageous!" I've said the same thing to my son.
